StyleGuard Installation Instructions

AP StyleGuard, powered by Equiom Linguistic Labs, is a powerful yet easy solution that integrates with Microsoft Word and provides automatic checking of your documents for AP style. You can learn more about it at http://www.apstylebook.com/styleguard. Buy a subscription to StyleGuard via our secure order form, then follow these installation instructions.

1 Close Microsoft Word, if you are running the program.

2 Go to the lower left of your screen and click on "Start," then choose "Run." In the box that opens up, cut and paste this link: https://style-guard.com/download/APSetup.exe

3 Click "OK" or "Run" to run the downloaded file and begin installation of the StyleGuard plug in.

(Alternatively, you can save the file "APSetup.exe" to your desktop or other place where you can find it easily, then double click on APSetup.exe to launch the file and begin installation.)

4 You might be asked to install the Visual Studio Tools for the Office system 3.0 Runtime Service Pack 1. Accept the licensing agreement to continue.

5 Installation of StyleGuard should now start. Click Next to start the installation of StyleGuard.

6 Click Next to install StyleGuard at the default directory.

7 Select "I Agree" and click Next to continue the installation after reviewing the license agreement.

8 Continue installation by clicking Next

9 Complete the installation by clicking Close

10 Start Microsoft Word and click "Install" on the StyleGuard plug in when prompted.

11 After installation, the StyleGuard pane should show up as part of Microsoft Word at the right. Select the StyleGuard tab in the ribbon at the top.

12 Click on the "AP Stylebook 2011" icon

13 Enter your information and the unique StyleGuard activation code to activate the "AP Stylebook 2011" style collection. You can find your code in the confirmation email you received after purchasing StyleGuard.

14 Once you filled in the form, click Activate.

15 Your AP Stylebook 2011 style collection should now be activated. Click OK to continue.

Click "enable StyleGuard" to begin using StyleGuard, and choose whether you would like to show informational listings or not by checking that box to the left of the AP logo. You can now begin to enjoy StyleGuard's assistance checking for AP style in all your documents.

16 You can now enjoy the style checking features provided by StyleGuard

Some customers might have a start-up wizard manage some of these steps automatically. If so, skip ahead as needed.

If you haven't activated StyleGuard because you are running into trouble, please let us know. We are happy to help.

You can use this plug in on three machines if you are the primary user, so if you would like to install on both your home computer and your work computer, you can do that. Or you might save this activation code in case you upgrade your computer in the next few months.
