I have searched the entries for figures and numerals and millions and billions and everything in between and can't find an answer to the question of consistency in regard to reporting numbers in decimals or rounded numbers. It says not to go beyond two decimal places, but it doesn't say that if you go one or two decimal places, you should do that for every number, or whether you can vary it. For example, if sales in year 1 were $4.8 million, and in year 2, they were $11,898,000, and in year 3, sales were $279,041,000, how would you write about all three:
For the three years, the company reported sales of $4.8 million, $12.0 million and $279.04 million, respectively.
or:
For the three years, the company reported sales of $4.8 million, $12 million and $279 million, respectively.
or:
For the three years, the company reported sales of $5, $12 million and $279 million, respectively.
